Career Pressure
Written by: Joyciel Y. Abrea
Career pressure is something we often experience as BLIS students, especially when we think about our future after graduation. Sometimes, we feel unsure if our course will lead to a stable job, especially when other people don’t understand BLIS and underestimate its value. We also tend to compare ourselves to students from other programs with clearer career paths, which can cause anxiety, self-doubt, and fear of not being good enough.
This pressure becomes heavier because of academic demands and family expectations, especially when people question if our course has a good future. Despite this, we should remember that BLIS offers many opportunities beyond librarianship, such as careers in archives, records management, digital libraries, and research centers. By improving our skills through trainings and staying confident in our journey, we can overcome career pressure and build a successful and meaningful career.
